Taste of Asia 2026 — Canada’s Largest Asian Street Festival
Every summer, a stretch of Kennedy Road in Markham transforms into something you really have to see to believe. Hundreds of thousands of people, over 150 food and craft vendors, live performances spanning lion dances to K-pop — and all of it completely free. Taste of Asia 2026 runs June 26 to 28 right at the corner of Kennedy and Steeles, next door to Pacific Mall.
This is one of the most genuinely fun festivals in the GTA, and it has been since 2003. The food alone is worth the trip — Korean BBQ skewers, Japanese takoyaki, Chinese dumplings, Filipino street food, and dozens of other things you’ll want to try. Add live entertainment all weekend, a celebrity headliner on Saturday night, and the kind of crowd energy that only comes from a free street festival at its peak, and you’ve got a can’t-miss June weekend.

✨ Why Taste of Asia Deserves a Spot in Your June Plans
There are a lot of festivals in the GTA every summer. Most of them have one or two things going for them. Taste of Asia has everything — food, entertainment, culture, community, and zero admission cost — all stacked into one weekend on a street that basically becomes its own little city for three days.
It started in 2003 as a local community gathering organized by the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham. Two decades later, it draws well over 180,000 visitors annually and has grown into one of the largest outdoor Asian festivals in Canada. The diversity of what you’ll find on that strip of Kennedy Road — cultures, cuisines, performances — is something most festivals spend years trying to build and never quite achieve.
What really makes it worth going, though, is the atmosphere. It’s a genuine street festival — loud, busy, full of smells from every direction, with something unexpected around every corner. You can spend a full day here and still feel like you missed things. That’s the mark of a festival done right.

🚗 Kennedy Road is closed to vehicle traffic between Steeles Avenue and Denison Street from Friday 10:00 AM through Sunday at midnight for the full festival weekend.
🍕 The Food — The Real Reason People Come Back
Let’s be honest: for a lot of attendees, Taste of Asia is first and foremost a food event. Over 150 vendors line Kennedy Road, and the range of what’s on offer is genuinely impressive. This isn’t one type of Asian food — it’s a full cross-section of the continent on a single street.
🇰🇷
Korean
BBQ skewers, tteokbokki, Korean fried chicken
🇯🇵
Japanese
Takoyaki, ramen, taiyaki, matcha treats
🇨🇳
Chinese
Dumplings, bubble tea, scallion pancakes, BBQ meats
🇵🇭
Filipino
Balut, isaw, halo-halo, lechon skewers
Beyond the street food, there are also on-site cooking demonstrations worth watching if you want to see how some of these dishes come together. And in between vendors, you’ll find artisan booths selling handmade jewellery, traditional clothing, art prints, and cultural souvenirs — so budget some time (and wallet space) for that too.
🎭 What’s On Stage — Three Days of Performances
The entertainment lineup runs all weekend across the main festival stage. There’s something happening pretty much constantly — and the variety is part of what makes this festival unlike anything else in the GTA.
⭐ Saturday Headliner — June 27 Evening
Philip Keung — Hong Kong Actor & Performer
Acclaimed for his work in Hong Kong television dramas and films, Philip Keung makes a special appearance and performance on Saturday evening. If you’re a fan, you’ll already know why this is a big deal. If you’re not yet familiar with his work, this is a great introduction — his stage presence draws fans from across the GTA and well beyond.
🥊 Traditional Lion Dances & Martial Arts
A festival staple and always a crowd-stopper. The precision of martial arts demonstrations alongside the colour and noise of the lion dance is one of those things that’s genuinely hard to pull your eyes away from.
🎶 K-Pop Showcases & Live Bands
K-pop has been a growing part of the festival’s entertainment mix, and 2026 is no different. Expect energetic group performances, cover acts, and original acts representing the genre’s reach into the GTA’s Asian-Canadian community.
🎤 Multicultural Troupes & Cultural Showcases
Community groups from across the GTA take to the stage to represent their cultures. The Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians’ youth group MFFC Rhythm Re-Choired is one of the highlights — group performances and solos from a youth ensemble that has been a crowd favourite at this festival for years.
🎓 Talent Competitions & Community Acts
Beyond the main stage acts, the festival features talent competitions and community performances that showcase local artists. It’s one of the reasons the crowd energy here feels different from a festival with a fixed ticketed lineup — there’s always something a little surprising going on.

🚗 Getting There
The festival is at Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East in Markham — right beside Pacific Mall and Market Village in the Milliken Mills neighbourhood. It’s one of the most recognizable intersections in the GTA’s Asian community, and easy to find.
🚘 By Car
Take Highway 401 to Kennedy Road North, or Steeles Avenue East from the west. Kennedy Road itself is closed between Steeles and Denison Street during the festival, so plan to park in surrounding lots near Pacific Mall and Market Village and walk in.
🚌 By Transit
TTC bus routes run along Steeles Avenue East (Route 53) and Kennedy Road. Finch Station on Line 1 is also a reasonable jump-off point for connecting buses heading east. York Region Transit routes serve the area from Markham and surrounding communities.

💡 Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
👤 Crowds peak on Saturday. If you want Philip Keung or the best selection of vendors, Saturday is your day — just expect it to be packed. Sunday morning tends to be the most relaxed window of the whole weekend.
💰 Bring cash. Many food vendors at street festivals like this prefer or only accept cash. ATMs in Pacific Mall can get busy on festival weekend, so come prepared.
Dress for June heat. This is a fully outdoor street festival on pavement. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat go a long way. There’s very little shade on Kennedy Road itself.
👪 Great for kids. The open street format, free admission, and mix of food, colour, and performances make this one of the easier GTA festivals to bring young kids to. Strollers are manageable but expect it to be tight in busier stretches.
🍷 Pace yourself at the food stalls. With 150+ vendors, the temptation to grab something from every booth is real. Walk the full length of the festival first to scope out what you actually want — you’ll eat better and spend less.
🚗 Kennedy Road is closed. Don’t try to drive through the area — road closures are in effect all weekend. Give yourself a few extra minutes to find parking in the surrounding lots.

Yes — completely free. No tickets, no wristbands, no gate. You just show up. You’ll spend money on food and vendor items, but getting in costs nothing.
Where exactly is the festival?
Kennedy Road between Steeles Avenue East and Clayton Drive in Markham — right beside Pacific Mall and Market Village. Kennedy Road is closed to traffic all weekend, so the whole street becomes the festival.
Who is performing in 2026?
The headline act is Philip Keung, the acclaimed Hong Kong actor and performer, appearing Saturday evening June 27. Beyond that, the entertainment lineup includes traditional lion dances, martial arts demonstrations, K-pop showcases, live bands, multicultural troupes, and community youth performances including MFFC Rhythm Re-Choired.
Is it good for families and kids?

What day should I go if I can only make one?
