There’s a certain Victoria Day long weekend feeling in Barrie that’s hard to describe unless you’ve lived it — the lake finally feels warm enough to look at without shivering, the midway lights come on at dusk, and somewhere across Kempenfelt Bay you can hear a tribute band absolutely nailing a Foo Fighters riff. That’s the Barrie Waterfront Festival, and 2026 marks its 21st year.

Running May 22 to 24, 2026 at Centennial Park, this is the unofficial kick-off to Barrie’s summer festival season. Three days, eleven bands, food trucks, a beer garden, a full midway, and 50+ vendors — all of it completely free to walk in. 💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go

🚗 Parking fills up fast. Centennial Park has limited parking and it disappears by mid-afternoon on Saturday. Park downtown and walk down to the waterfront — it’s a five-minute walk and you’ll save yourself a lot of stress.

🌞 Bring a folding chair or blanket. Most people stake out a spot on the grass in front of the main stage. Get there at least 30 minutes before a band you really want to see, especially for the Saturday night headliner.

🍲 Cash isn’t always optional. Most vendors take debit and credit, but a handful of midway games and smaller food stalls are cash-only. Hit an ATM beforehand.

🌤️ Check the weather. The festival runs rain or shine, but Victoria Day weekend in Ontario can be anything from 28°C and sunny to 9°C and pouring. Layers and a light rain jacket are smart.

👪 Going with kids? Saturday afternoon (between noon and 4 pm) is the sweet spot — the midway is in full swing, the music is family-volume, and the bigger crowds haven’t arrived yet. Buy a ride wristband to keep things simple.

🎄 Make a weekend of it. Barrie is genuinely a nice place to spend the long weekend — the Allandale waterfront, the dock at Heritage Park, the trails behind the park. Book accommodation early; the long weekend always sells out.
