Founded by Caribana Arts Group in 1967, Caribana is more than just a party—it’s a celebration of Caribbean resilience, heritage, and community. This marks the festival’s historic expansion into Kitchener-Waterloo, where it has already drawn 18,000 attendees and become one of the province’s fastest-growing Caribbean experiences. From the electrifying street parade to the family-friendly glow party, there’s something for every age and every spirit.

Friday, August 21 — 6 PM to 10 PM
Family Glow Party: Kick off the festival at Carl Zehr Square with a high-energy, family-friendly celebration featuring music, dancing, lights, and Caribbean food. Free glow sticks distributed to the first 1,000 participants. Wear bright colours representing your community. Live performances, DJs, and vendors offering crafts and creations. This is Caribana’s iconic opening night—an electric start to the weekend.
Saturday, August 22 — 12 PM to 6 PM
Street Parade & Festival: The main event! Mas bands and revellers parade down King Street with stunning costumes, live soca and reggae, and steel drums. Watch from the sidelines or jump in if you’re registered. The celebration continues at Carl Zehr Square (Carnival Village) with food trucks, vendors, live music, DJs, and a kids’ zone. The energy is electric—this is what Caribana is all about.
Play Mas: Six Ways to Celebrate

Downtown Kitchener is accessible by car or public transit. The festival is centred around Carl Zehr Square and King Street, both in the heart of the city.

By transit: GRT routes 7, 8, 20, and iXpress 204 serve the area. ION LRT stops at Kitchener City Hall and Victoria Park stations, both a short walk away.
Special shuttle: Caribana Ignite offers round-trip transportation from Toronto, London, and Hamilton for registered masqueraders (based on availability).
Parking: Paid parking available at City Hall; street parking also available nearby.
Visitor Tips
- Wear bright colours. Bring clothes in the vibrant colours of your community or Caribbean heritage. The more colour, the better—this is carnival!
- Bring water and sunscreen. August heat can be intense. Stay hydrated, especially if you’re planning to dance and walk the parade route.
- Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be standing, dancing, and possibly walking along King Street. Comfortable footwear is essential for enjoying the full experience.
- Bring cash and cards. Many vendors accept both, but it’s good to have options. ATMs are available, but having cash speeds things up when lines are long.
- Arrive early on Saturday. The parade is popular—arriving by late morning gives you time to find a good viewing spot without getting crushed in the crowd.
- Bring a chair or blanket. While there’s festival seating at Carl Zehr Square, bringing your own chair or blanket ensures a comfortable spot for the glow party or longer festival stays.
- Check downtown patios. Can’t decide between the parade and a meal? Many downtown Kitchener patios have parade-side seating—book ahead if you want a front-row dining experience.
