โจ Why This Fair Is Worth the Drive
The Dundalk Agricultural Society has been running this fair for 169 years, which makes it one of the older continuous agricultural fairs in Grey County. It’s held the weekend after Labour Day at the fairgrounds and community centre right at the corner of Highway 10 and Main Street in Dundalk, giving it an easy-to-find, right-in-town feel that a lot of larger fairgrounds don’t have.
What sets Dundalk apart from a typical small-town fair is the fiddle and dance competition running alongside it. The 67th Canadian Open Square Dancing, Step Dancing, Clogging Competition & Fiddle Contest takes over the inside stage all Saturday โ a genuinely long-running, competitive event in its own right, not just background entertainment.
The rest of the weekend covers a lot of ground: antique tractor and truck pulls, junior and 4-H calf shows, a Dundalk Invitational Sheep Show, ATV barrel races, and a Sunday-afternoon demolition derby that closes out the fair. The 2026 theme, “Let the Good Times Grow,” plays out across the exhibit hall’s homecraft, flower, and vegetable classes, all judged and on display throughout the weekend.
It’s also a fair built for families on a budget. Every kids’ activity โ the inflatables, pony rides, agriculture learning stations, magic shows, and pedal tractor pull โ is included in the price of admission, so a family of four isn’t nickel-and-dimed at every turn the way they might be at a bigger, midway-heavy fair. The exhibit hall stays open both Saturday and Sunday, giving visitors two full chances to wander through the homecraft, quilting, and produce displays without feeling rushed.
