Goderich is home to something most people don’t know exists: the world’s largest underground salt mine, sprawling beneath Lake Huron 1,800 feet below the town. The Goderich Salt & Harvest Festival puts that hidden treasure at the centre of a Labour Day celebration that has grown from a local idea in 2023 to an award-winning provincial event.
This isn’t just a music festival. The “salt” part is real—you can tour the mine (virtually, from the surface), watch mine rescue demonstrations, walk the Salt History Trail, and explore how this engineering marvel shapes the economy of a small Ontario town. Then the “harvest” kicks in with live music all weekend, local food vendors, and a surprisingly fun Battle of the Bands competition where six local bands compete for cash prizes and bragging rights as “The Saltiest Band In Goderich.”
Most events are free. The headliner is Big Wreck on Saturday, with Spice & Spears (a high-energy Spice Girls and Britney Spears tribute) on Friday. Throw in a petting zoo, wagon rides, and the historic waterfront charm of downtown Goderich, and you’ve got a weekend that works for families, music fans, and industrial-history nerds alike.

Thursday, September 3
Sal’s Alley — 7:00 PM at the Goderich Performance Stage. Back by popular demand, this is a free event with cash donations welcome. Beer garden open for 19+.
Friday, September 4
Downtown Goderich BIA Friday Night Concert — 4:30 PM gates open. Clara Stegall opens (Grand Bend artist, international solo & collaboration experience). Headliner: Spice & Spears — a high-energy tribute to the Spice Girls and Britney Spears with live vocals, choreography, and costume changes. Tickets: $30 adult, $10 under 13 (adult accompaniment required). All ages, licensed event.
Saturday, September 5
Battle of the Bands (Free) — Six local bands compete for cash prizes and the title “The Saltiest Band In Goderich,” judged by industry professionals. Compass Minerals Concert — Big Wreck headlines (classic rock, indie rock powerhouse). Tickets TBA. All ages, licensed event.
Sunday, September 6
