๐ก Since 1972, four Milverton Fair Ambassadors have gone on to win CNE Ambassador of the Fairs – more than any other fair in Ontario, a genuinely notable point of local pride.
โจ Why This Fair Is Worth the Trip
The Milverton Agricultural Society became a legal entity in 1863, which puts the 2026 fair at its 163rd year – a genuinely long, unbroken thread of small-town Perth East tradition. What makes it stand out beyond its age is a remarkable ambassador legacy: since 1972, four different Milverton Fair Ambassadors have gone on to win the title of CNE Ambassador of the Fairs, more than any other fair in the entire province. For a fair serving a village of a few thousand people, that’s a striking track record.
The fair itself is intentionally scaled to community life rather than spectacle – there’s no midway or grandstand headline act here. Instead, the day centres on genuine local participation: a Baby Show that’s less a competition than a chance to meet the newest members of the community, a Mini Pedal Tractor Pull for kids grouped by weight class, and an extensive homecraft and horticulture exhibition spanning 25 separate classes, from field crops and quilting to photography and antiques.
Each year runs on a theme, and 2026’s “Blue Jeans and Country Dreams” threads through everything from the scarecrow-making contest to junior fair crafts to a dedicated denim-themed homecraft class. It’s a small, well-loved fair that rewards showing up not for spectacle, but for the texture of a community putting its year of work on display.

One class this year carries real weight: Annie’s Brownies, a new special tribute class honouring Ann Hargrave, a long-serving Milverton Agricultural Society secretary who passed away in November 2025. Her husband Robert Hargrave, a former OAAS President, is sponsoring the class in her memory, complete with her original hand-cranked brownie recipe printed in the fair book.
The fair also runs an OAAS-sanctioned Quilt Competition, with winning quilts eligible to advance to District 8 competition in October and, ultimately, the Provincial Grand Championship at the OAAS Convention in Toronto the following February – a meaningful pathway for serious quilters entering from a small local fair.

๐ก A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
๐ถ Pre-register for the Baby Show if you’re entering. While it isn’t a hard requirement, the fair book strongly encourages advance sign-up to help organizers plan the categories smoothly.
๐ Weigh your child before the pedal tractor pull. The three weight classes (under 40 lbs, 41-60 lbs, 61-80 lbs) determine which heat they compete in, so knowing the weight ahead of time saves confusion at check-in.
๐งต If you’re entering homecraft or horticulture, check entry timing closely. Entries are only received Thursday evening and Friday morning – there’s no same-day drop-off on the Saturday fair day itself.
๐ฐ Confirm gate admission directly with the Society. Pricing wasn’t published in the 2026 Fair Book at the time of writing – a quick call or check of the official site closer to the date will confirm current rates.
๐ Pick up exhibits promptly. The window to collect entries and prize money is a tight one hour, 3-4 PM on Saturday – don’t plan to come back later in the day.
