Mississauga Halal Food Festival 2026 — Canada’s Biggest Halal Food Celebration
Thirteen years in, and the Mississauga Halal Food Festival hasn’t slowed down one bit. This June, Celebration Square becomes home to one of the most vibrant food-and-culture events in the entire GTA — two days of flavours from across the Muslim world, live entertainment, and tens of thousands of people from every background coming together over great food.
Whether you’re a halal food devotee who’s been coming since the early years, or you’re just curious what all the fuss is about, MHFF 2026 is worth carving out a June weekend for. Best of all? It’s completely free to attend.

✨ Why This Festival Keeps Getting Bigger Every Year
The Mississauga Halal Food Festival didn’t become Canada’s largest halal food event by accident. It got there because it genuinely delivers — year after year — an experience that feels like a community celebration rather than just another event on the calendar.
What started as a single-city event through Universal Halal Food Festivals has expanded into a multi-city Ontario platform, supporting over 200 small businesses and creating opportunities for more than 100 artists and performers. The Mississauga edition remains the flagship — drawing crowds well north of 50,000 people across its two-day run at Celebration Square.
And the food really is the star. This isn’t a generic street food market that happens to be halal-certified — it’s a genuine showcase of cuisine from South Asia, the Middle East, East Africa, Southeast Asia, and beyond, all in one open-air square in the heart of Mississauga City Centre. You could spend two full days eating and still not get through everything on offer.
📅 Dates & Hours
Friday, June 12
4:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Evening opening — perfect for after-work crowds and a long Friday night out
Saturday, June 13
1:00 PM – 11:00 PM
The big day — ten full hours with the largest crowds, full programming, and the headliner performance
🌟 Both days wrap up at 11:00 PM. If you’re coming with kids, earlier afternoon on Saturday gives you the best mix of energy and manageable crowds.
🍴 The Food: What to Expect on the Ground
This is where MHFF earns its reputation. The vendor lineup spans dozens of food stalls covering cuisines you’d be hard-pressed to find under one roof anywhere else in Ontario. Think Pakistani BBQ, Somali rice dishes, Lebanese wraps, Malay-style desserts, Egyptian street food, and Canadian halal comfort food — all certified, all in one place.

🍪 Desserts
Dedicated dessert vendors with sweets from South Asia, Middle East & beyond

🎶 Entertainment & Live Performances
The entertainment program at MHFF has always punched well above its weight for a free outdoor event. Past performers have included international names like Shehzad Roy, Atif Aslam’s contemporaries, Kaifi Khalil (of Kahani Suno fame), Jawad Ahmed, and Qawwali legends Fareed Ayaz & Abu Muhammad. Each year brings an international headliner alongside a full slate of local talent, cultural performers, and TV personalities.
The main stage at Celebration Square runs programming across both days, building toward the headline act. Beyond the main stage, expect cultural dance performances, live DJs, and the kind of spontaneous energy that only happens when 50,000 people are having a really good time in an open square.
🌟 2026 headliner TBA. The festival announces performers in the weeks leading up to the event. Follow halalfoodfestivals.ca and their social channels for the announcement.
👪 Families & Kids
MHFF is genuinely one of the better family outings you’ll find in Mississauga all summer. The festival is all-ages and free, which takes a lot of the pressure off — there’s no gate to get through and no budget math to do before you arrive.
There’s a dedicated kids’ zone with age-appropriate activities, and the outdoor setting at Celebration Square is spacious enough that kids have room to move around. The cultural programming — traditional dances, music, and performances from across different communities — also gives younger visitors a genuinely interesting window into cultures they might not encounter every day.

🌟 About Universal Halal Food Festivals
MHFF is organized by Universal Halal Food Festivals, a not-for-profit initiative founded by Amir Shamsi — a veteran event producer with over two decades of experience behind large-scale concerts and cultural festivals. What began as a single Mississauga event has grown into a multi-city Ontario platform running festivals in 5+ cities, supporting over 200 small businesses and creating platforms for 100+ artists annually.
The festival also runs an Incubator Program that supports emerging food entrepreneurs and artists with mentorship and real-world vendor experience — meaning when you buy from a vendor at MHFF, you’re often supporting someone taking their very first steps toward a real business.

🏃 Want to Be Part of It?
MHFF is more than something to attend — it’s a platform. If you run a halal food business (or are trying to launch one), becoming a vendor is a genuine opportunity to reach 50,000+ people over a single weekend. The festival has a proven track record of giving small food businesses their first real public exposure. Volunteer spots are also available for those who want to be part of the team.
💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
📞 Bring cash and cards. Most vendors accept both, but cash moves faster at busy food stalls. Having both handy saves you from waiting in line twice.
🌟 Saturday afternoon is peak time. If you want the full buzzing atmosphere, Saturday from 3 PM onward is the sweet spot. If you prefer breathing room, Friday evening tends to be slightly less packed.
🚗 Don’t count on easy parking on Saturday. City Centre parkades fill up fast with 50,000+ people descending on a square surrounded by a shopping mall. Transit or rideshare is genuinely the smarter play.
☀️ Check the weather. This is a fully outdoor festival. Light layers for the evening hours in June aren’t a bad idea — Celebration Square can feel breezy once the sun goes down.
🍴 Pace yourself on the food. Seriously. The temptation is to buy everything immediately. Walk the full vendor strip first before committing — there’s always something at stall 47 that you’ll wish you hadn’t missed.
👥 Great for groups. The open square layout makes MHFF unusually easy to navigate with a large group. Split up, try different things, and regroup at the main stage for the evening entertainment.
