✨ Why a Festival on a Runway Actually Works
Jones Entertainment Group has spent over 20 years building Rock The Park into one of Southwestern Ontario’s staple summer festivals at Harris Park. Rock The Runway is their deliberate answer to a scheduling gap: rather than compete with their own July event, they built a second festival timed to when 40,000-plus Western and Fanshawe students are back in London for the fall semester — and they picked a genuinely unusual venue to do it.
According to JEG’s own account, the idea clicked the moment founder Brad Jones stood in the middle of the airport’s northwest runway during a site visit with London International Airport’s leadership. The airport itself — proud to be based in Canada’s first UNESCO City of Music — signed on as an enthusiastic host, and Western’s Students’ Council came on as a partner, giving the whole event a distinctly campus-adjacent energy without being a strictly student-only show.
The lineup backs up the ambition. Limp Bizkit and Cypress Hill headlining night one is a genuinely major nu-metal and hip-hop pairing, with Canadian rock act The Dirty Nil rounding things out. Night two flips the mood entirely toward electronic and dance music with Disco Lines and Loud Luxury. It’s a festival built to appeal to two very different crowds across its two nights, on a stage setting you won’t find anywhere else in the province.
There’s also a charitable angle worth knowing about: Rock The Runway runs in support of the Children’s Health Foundation, and the festival’s volunteer program is coordinated directly through that organization. It’s a nice reminder that behind the headline-grabbing runway concept and the big-name lineup, there’s a community fundraising purpose baked into the event as well — something that fits neatly with JEG’s long track record of running Rock The Park as a fixture of London’s civic calendar rather than just another touring festival stop.

💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
🚗 Carpool or book a parking pass early. Only a limited number of parking passes are sold per night — don’t assume you can just show up and park.
🎫 Have your Eventbrite QR code ready. Codes become available 72 hours before the show — download or screenshot yours ahead of time to avoid last-minute scrambling.
🪑 Leave the lawn chair at home. They’re not permitted — this is a standing festival experience.
📿 Don’t lose your wristband if you’re VIP. Lost or stolen wristbands aren’t replaced under any circumstances.
🎶 Pick your night by mood. Thursday is nu-metal and hip-hop energy with Limp Bizkit and Cypress Hill; Friday flips to dance and electronic with Disco Lines and Loud Luxury. Choose accordingly if you’re only going one night.
