โจ Why This Fair Is Worth the Drive
The West Niagara Fair traces its roots back more than 165 years, to the Agricultural Society of Upper Canada era, and its current form dates to a 2012 merger of the Lincoln and Smithville Agricultural Societies. What that history adds up to today is a genuinely full-scale fair on a 95-acre fairgrounds in Grassie, run almost entirely by volunteers through the West Niagara Agricultural Society.
What makes the 2026 edition stand out is the sheer breadth of programming running in parallel. There’s the traditional agricultural core โ 4-H goat, poultry, and dairy shows, English and Western horse competitions, a heavy and light horse show, sheep shearing and cow milking demonstrations โ happening alongside a Main Stage & Wine Garden that runs live music, dance performances, and comedy nearly non-stop from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.
Then there’s the motorsports side: a Friday night 4-cylinder demolition derby, Saturday’s antique tractor pull, Sunday’s garden tractor and ATV pull, a Kids’ Power Wheels Derby, and a full demolition derby to close out the weekend. Add a beer tent, a licensed wine garden, a vendor marketplace, and a Kids Zone with its own schedule of crafts and shows, and it’s easy to see why this has become one of Niagara’s favourite September traditions.
