🥁 Afrofest Sudbury Opens (Sudbury, 11 AM–8 PM) — Opening day of the African culture celebration. Live performances, costume parade registration, face painting, vendors at Bell Park lakeside.
🎶 Summerfolk Opens (Leith/Owen Sound, all day) — Opening day with evening performances on concert and workshop stages at Kelso Beach on Georgian Bay.
🎉 Bay Block Party Main Event (North Bay, all-day) — The Strumbellas headline! Multiple live music stages, food vendors, local breweries, artisans, family-friendly activities. FREE. Bring rain gear.
🥁 Afrofest Sudbury Peak Day (Sudbury, 11 AM–8 PM) — More live performances, costume parade, face painting, vendors, and family programming continue. Participate in the parade if registered!
🎶 Summerfolk Peak Day (Leith/Owen Sound, all day) — All six stages in full swing. Workshops throughout the day, artisan village at capacity, and evening concerts under partially covered venues.
🎤 Muskoka Music Festival Farewell (Gravenhurst, 7:30 PM doors 7 PM) — ONE NIGHT ONLY. The final Muskoka Music Festival. Serena Ryder & Mimi O’Bonsawin at the historic Gravenhurst Opera House (125 years old). Rock Bar opens 6:30 PM. Reserved seating (~300 intimate seats).
🥁 Afrofest Sudbury Closing Day (Sudbury, 11 AM–8 PM) — Final day of celebrations with performances and vendor activities. Weather clears (35% rain).
🎶 Summerfolk Closing Day (Leith/Owen Sound, all day) — Final performances and the beloved Sunday morning gospel session at 10:30 AM. Community farewells and lingering music.
🚗 Getting There: Geographic Spread
Northern Cluster: North Bay & Sudbury
North Bay (Bay Block Party): Approximately 3.5 hours north of Toronto via Highway 11. Downtown venue with street parking and nearby lots.
Sudbury (Afrofest Sudbury): Approximately 4 hours north of Toronto via Highway 11. Bell Park is centrally located with free parking.
Distance Between: North Bay to Sudbury is ~2 hours via Highway 11. Consider staying in either city and day-tripping to the other, or splitting your weekend between both Northern Ontario festivals.
Central-to-Northern: Summerfolk (Leith/Owen Sound)
Location: Leith is on the shores of Georgian Bay, approximately 2–2.5 hours northwest of Toronto via Highway 401 West then Highway 6 or Highway 10 toward Owen Sound.
From North Bay: Approximately 5–6 hours northwest. A longer drive, but worth considering if combining festivals.
Muskoka (Gravenhurst) — Intimate Venue
Location: Gravenhurst is approximately 2 hours north of Toronto via Highway 11. Historic downtown opera house with ample parking.
Closest to North Bay & Sudbury? From Sudbury, Gravenhurst is ~4 hours south. From North Bay, ~5.5 hours. The farewell concert on Aug 22 is one-night-only, so plan accordingly if combining with other festivals.
Most Practical Route
Recommendation: Choose either (1) the Northern Ontario duo (North Bay + Sudbury on Aug 21–22, FREE festivals) or (2) the folk/music weekend (Summerfolk Aug 21–23, Muskoka farewell Aug 22 only). Combining North Bay/Sudbury with Summerfolk/Gravenhurst is a 6–8 hour circuit and more ambitious. Pick your anchor festival and build around it.
