Fergus already looks the part. The limestone storefronts and Scottish-stone architecture of its downtown core give this festival a head start that a lot of steampunk events have to fake with rented set pieces — for one weekend a year, the town’s genuine 19th-century bones become the backdrop for goggles, corsets, brass gadgetry and robots.

What started small has grown fast. Now in its 4th year, Cogs & Clockwork has expanded from a single-day pop-up into a two-night event with over 30 juried vendors, a proper Night Market on Menzies Lane, and — new for 2026 — Hamster Fighting (the non-real kind), an outdoor short-animation theatre, and a Robot Road display built with Sheridan College. The festival still runs on a suggested $2 donation, which goes to both the event itself and the local food bank.

The genuine draw this year, though, is the music. Professor Elemental and John Sprocket of The Cog is Dead are playing together at the Fergus Grand Theatre — organizers are billing it as the only chance to catch both performers together in North America in 2026, which is a real reason to build a weekend around a small-town Ontario festival most people outside the steampunk community have never heard of.

The festival footprint covers Menzies Lane and St. Andrew Street in the heart of downtown Fergus, easily walkable once you’re parked.

Parking: Five municipal lots serve downtown Fergus — vendor lots on St. George Street West near the Curling Club, plus 3-hour public parking at Provost Lane, Menzies Lane (behind the library), and Queen Street West (behind the Market Place).

Shuttle bus: Runs from the corner of Beaty Line and St. Andrew Street through the AO Smith parking lot into downtown. Frequent service until 5 PM, less frequent after, ending at 8 PM.
