Immersion Festival is a rare gathering — one that celebrates Black Canadian dance artists and the cultures of the African diaspora while opening doors for emerging talent. Over fifteen days in November, downtown Toronto becomes a hub where audiences, established choreographers, and aspiring dancers come together for performances that command international attention and workshops that connect career-building opportunities with genuine mentorship.

The three main performances span different generations and approaches to dance. The NEXT GEN Presentation gives youth the spotlight on a professional stage — a stage usually reserved for established artists. The NATIONAL Presentation brings together Black-led companies and artists from across Canada: Toronto, Calgary, Montréal, and Nova Scotia. And the VANGUARD Presentation features seven commissioned duets that pair internationally-renowned Canadian choreographers with live musicians in a once-in-a-lifetime gathering.

Beyond performances, the festival invests in education and community. Twelve workshops teach everything from African Street Dance and Rwandan traditional dances to Vernacular Jazz and Bahamian Caribbean Folk, led by instructors from across Canada. Betty Oliphant Theatre is located in downtown Toronto on Jarvis Street, easily accessible by transit, car, and foot. The theatre sits on the west side of Jarvis between Dundas and Wellesley.

By transit: Take the TTC Line 1 (Yonge-University). From the north, get off at Wellesley Station and walk east to Jarvis, then south to the theatre. From the south, get off at College Station and walk east to Jarvis, then north.

Parking: Street parking is available on Jarvis and surrounding streets. Public parking lots are located within walking distance of the theatre. Arrive early on performance nights, as parking fills up quickly.
