✨ Why This Festival Is Special

The Multicultural Festival of Elmira exists to broaden cultural awareness, welcome newcomers to the Waterloo Region, and create a safe, supportive space where everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging. This is more than a performance day — it’s a celebration of how our shared community flourishes when we honour, learn from, and celebrate each other’s traditions.

The 2026 theme, “Rooted Here. Growing Together,” reflects this perfectly. No matter where we come from, each of us plays a role in what’s growing here in Elmira and the region. By celebrating global music, dance, food, and stories all in one place, MFE shows that diversity isn’t an afterthought — it’s the foundation of a vibrant community.

In its fourth year, MFE draws nearly 1,000 attendees. Whether you’re a longtime resident or newly arrived to the Waterloo Region, this is a chance to connect, explore, and be part of something that truly matters.

Seven world-class performers bring the full spectrum of global music and movement to Gibson Park. Get ready for an unforgettable journey of sound, storytelling, and celebration.

🎯 MFE Global Quest: Youth Challenge (Ages 14–24)

If you’re between 14 and 24, head straight to the Welcome Booth when you arrive at the festival and pick up your official Quest Log Stamp Card. Complete three epic challenges across the festival grounds to unlock some serious rewards.

The 3 Quests:

Quest 1: Global Games Challenge — Head to the Global Games Zone, play a traditional game, and get your card stamped.

Quest 2: World Languages Hunt — Visit three different cultural exhibitor booths and learn how to say “Welcome” or “Community” in three different languages.

Quest 3: Secret Menu Culinary Quest — Talk to a food vendor and discover their favourite unique dish to earn your final stamp.

💡 Pro tip: The festival kicks off at 12:00 PM. Show up early to grab your card at the Welcome Booth and be one of the first 20 to score a free food voucher!

Gibson Park sits at 17 First Street West in downtown Elmira, easily accessible from throughout the Waterloo Region. It’s a central, community-focused location perfect for a family day out.

By car: Gibson Park is accessible from Main Street in downtown Elmira. Parking is available on-site and in surrounding streets.

By transit: Check the Region of Waterloo Transit website for routes serving Elmira and downtown Elmira. Several bus routes connect to the area.

🎯 Start at the Welcome Booth. Whether you’re doing the Global Quest, looking for parking info, or needing accessibility support, the Welcome Booth is your hub for festival information.

🍽️ Bring cash and cards. Vendors accept both — having both payment options ensures you can sample everything without stress.

💧 Bring a refillable water bottle. Stay hydrated throughout the day. Water may be available from vendors or festival staff.

⛱️ Pack comfortable shoes. You’ll be exploring vendor booths, moving between performances, and potentially playing games — comfy feet make for a better day.
