✨ Why This Fair Is Worth the Trip
Port Perry sits right on Lake Scugog, about an hour northeast of Toronto in the Township of Scugog, and its Labour Day fair is one of the bigger agricultural fairs left in Durham Region. It’s run entirely by the Port Perry Agricultural Society, and it leans hard into the things a proper county fair is supposed to have: livestock in the barns, home craft entries lining the exhibit hall, and a full weekend of grandstand motorsports that draws crowds well beyond Scugog Township.
The grandstand lineup is the backbone of the weekend. Saturday night belongs to the Truck & Tractor Pull, Sunday brings the Demolition Derby, and Monday closes with the Extreme Rodeo — with FMX motocross shows and a Canine Circus stunt-dog act running multiple times a day in between. If motorsports and livestock aren’t your thing, the fair still delivers: a full midway, a Pet Show, a Fiddle Contest, and three separate baking contests (Men’s, Women’s, and the banana-chocolate-chip “Lumberjack” Anne Marie Taillon Award) all happen in the Entertainment Shelter over the three days.
What makes it feel different from a big-city event is the scale and the community behind it — this is still a fair where the 4-H kids showing beef cattle know the judges, and where the same families have been coming back for generations. It’s a genuine slice of rural Ontario, just far enough from Toronto to feel like a real trip out of the city.

💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
🎫 The Weekend Pass pays off fast. At $40 for adults, it beats buying two single-day tickets ($40) and includes a third day free, plus the Sunday concert.
🌙 Plan around the grandstand headliner. The Truck & Tractor Pull, Demolition Derby, and Extreme Rodeo each draw big crowds — arrive early on the day you want to see one for a good spot.
☀️ Dress for an outdoor fairground. Most of the fair — the midway, livestock barns, and grandstand — is outdoors or in open-air structures, so check the forecast and wear comfortable shoes for walking the grounds.
🍺 The Beer Tent has set hours. It opens at 1 PM Saturday, noon Sunday, and 11 AM Monday, and closes at 5 PM on the fair’s final day.
🧁 Catch the baking contests if you can. The Men’s, Women’s, and “Lumberjack” banana-chocolate-chip contests each run in the Entertainment Shelter and are free to watch, with cash prizes up to $1,000.
