✨ Why This Festival Is Worth Your Saturday
There are bigger festivals in Toronto. There are flashier ones, louder ones, ones with longer lineups and higher ticket prices. The Port Union Waterfront Festival is none of those things — and that’s exactly why it’s worth showing up for.
This is the kind of event that southeast Scarborough locals have quietly loved for years. It’s grassroots in the best sense: organized by a community committee in partnership with local groups, set on a stretch of Lake Ontario shoreline that most Torontonians have never even visited. Port Union Village Common sits right where Highland Creek meets the lake, and on a clear June day, it’s genuinely stunning out there.
You get live music, kids’ activities, local food, community organizations doing their thing, and a real sense that the people running this actually care about the neighbourhood. No corporate sponsor branding wall, no $18 beer. Just a free, easy, relaxed afternoon by the water. The 5km run/walk starts things off at 8:30 AM for the more energetic crowd, and the main festival carries the day through to 3 PM.
🎸 2026 Amphitheatre Lineup
The stage runs from festival open to close — a solid four hours of music ranging from singer-songwriter sets to classic rock covers to something a bit more unexpected at the end.
11:00 – 11:30 AM
Shayne Ireland — Singer/Songwriter
A gentle, melodic opener to ease into the day. Shayne Ireland brings an original singer-songwriter set to kick things off right at the 11 AM start.
11:40 AM – 12:10 PM
Neil Bennett / Tempting Murphy — Singer/Songwriter
Another original voice on the bill before the afternoon crowd really builds. Good music to enjoy with coffee while the kids hit the rock wall.
12:40 – 1:10 PM
The Orchard — Classic Rock Covers
The energy shifts here. The Orchard plays classic rock covers — crowd-pleasing, familiar, and exactly right for a sunny afternoon at an outdoor festival. This is the set where people stop walking and start staying.
1:40 – 2:10 PM
Better Side — Classic Rock Covers
More classic rock to keep the vibe going. If you’re planning to come for the music, the 12:40–2:10 PM window is the sweet spot of the day.
2:30 – 3:00 PM — Closing Act
Precious Kupuna Hawaiian Dance Troupe / HulaLA Aloha Toronto
The 2026 closing act is something genuinely different — a Hawaiian dance troupe bringing hula and aloha spirit to the Scarborough waterfront. It’s a beautiful, unexpected note to close out the afternoon on, and the kids absolutely love it. A real festival highlight.
🎡 What Else Is There to Do
Beyond the main stage, the festival spreads across the Village Common with activities for every age. It’s not a huge festival, but it’s well-organized and there’s enough going on to fill a comfortable few hours without feeling rushed.
🎡 Free Kiddie Rides
Free rides for the little ones — always a hit with the under-8 crowd and one of the things that brings families back year after year.
🠗 Rock Wall
The rock wall is a perennial favourite. Kids (and competitive adults) line up to see who can get to the top. Satisfying every single time.
🅺 Food & BBQ
BBQ, popcorn, and cold drinks available for a nominal fee. Nothing fancy — but hot food at a waterfront picnic table on a June afternoon is hard to beat.
🏘 Community Tables
Local businesses, community organizations, and neighbourhood groups set up information tables. Great way to discover what’s happening in southeast Scarborough.
🏅 Raffle
A community raffle rounds out the day. Grab tickets while you’re there — proceeds support the festival and local groups.
🌊 The Waterfront
Port Union Village Common is right on Lake Ontario. After the festival, wander down to the water — cobblestone beaches, open views, and the mouth of Highland Creek are minutes away on foot.
🏃 Waterfront Run/Walk Event — 8:30 AM
If the festival itself isn’t quite enough activity for you, the annual waterfront run/walk gets underway at 8:30 AM — a full two and a half hours before the main gates open. Two distances are on offer: a 5km walk/run and a 10km run, both along the beautiful Lake Ontario waterfront trail.
It’s a gorgeous morning route — the kind of run where you almost forget you’re in Toronto. The waterfront trail along this stretch connects Colonel Danforth Park, Highland Creek, and the mouth of the Rouge River, so there’s real natural scenery involved, not just pavement. This is a community-oriented run, organized in association with the local Lions Club — not a race requiring elite fitness. Beginners are genuinely welcome.

💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
🌟 Plan to arrive around noon if you want the best of it. The classic rock sets (12:40 and 1:40 PM) are when the atmosphere really peaks — music, crowd, food, and sunshine all hitting at once. Arriving at 11 means a quieter, more relaxed start.
📷 Stay for the closing act. The Precious Kupuna Hawaiian Dance Troupe closing the festival at 2:30 PM is genuinely unexpected and lovely. Kids especially seem to be transfixed. Don’t duck out early.
Bring a blanket or folding chair. This is an outdoor festival on a park common — seating is limited. A blanket on the grass near the stage is the classic setup and works great.
🌞 Pack sunscreen. The Village Common is an open, exposed park right on the lake. Beautiful, but zero shade if you’re not under a tree. June sun is stronger than it looks.
🏃 If you’re running, register early. The 5km/10km run starts at 8:30 AM and is a separate registration through waterfrontrun.ca. Don’t leave it to the morning of.
🌊 Walk the waterfront after. Once the festival winds down, the Lake Ontario waterfront trail is right there. The stretch between Highland Creek and the Rouge River is one of the quietest, prettiest walks in the entire city. Worth 30 minutes if you’ve never done it.
