Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2026 — Free, All-Ages & Wall-to-Wall Comics
For one weekend every June, downtown Toronto becomes a magnet for comics lovers from around the world. TCAF — the Toronto Comic Arts Festival — is one of the largest independent comic arts festivals anywhere, and on June 6 and 7, 2026 it lands at its new home, the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Running since 2003, TCAF has stayed true to a rare idea: a world-class festival that’s completely free and non-commercial. Expect 315+ artists, 30+ publishers, panels and workshops, kids’ storytimes, and the simple joy of meeting the people behind the books you love. No badges, no ticket lines — just comics.

💡 Admission is free and no tickets are required — just show up. Saturday runs 9am–5pm and Sunday 10am–5pm. Bring some cash or a card if you plan to buy books and art from the creators.
✨ Why This Festival Is Worth Your Time
There are bigger, flashier comic conventions — the ones with celebrity photo ops and queues around the block. TCAF is something different. It’s built around the art of comics: the cartoonists, the small presses, the weird and wonderful indie books you won’t find at a chain store.
It’s also genuinely democratic. TCAF has been free since 2003 and deliberately spotlights emerging talent right alongside legends — past guests have included Art Spiegelman, Alison Bechdel, Junji Ito, Daniel Clowes and Bryan Lee O’Malley. You can discover a debut creator at one table and meet a personal hero at the next.
And it’s welcoming in a way big cons often aren’t. All-ages, family-friendly, with kids’ workshops, a neurodivergent breakroom, and a fully accessible venue. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just curious, it’s an easy, low-pressure day out.

The heart of the festival. Meet the creators of your favourite comics and shop their latest releases — 315+ artists and 30+ publishers across the floor.
🎤 Festival Programming
Panel talks, Q&As, workshops and artist spotlights exploring the past and present of comics, running throughout both days on-site.

TCAF is all-ages — bring the kids for drawing and creation workshops and comics storytimes led by educators and library workers.

On Friday June 5: Libraries & Education Day for library and education workers, and Word Balloon Academy for working cartoonists.

Step-Free Venue
Two elevators at the Carlton Street entrance serve all four levels, with escalators on every floor.
Accessible Washrooms
All washrooms are wheelchair accessible, with all-gender washrooms and baby change tables on every level.
Retreat Neurodivergent Breakroom
A quiet sensory-friendly space (3rd floor, room 3310) with comfy seating, stim toys and weighted cushions. No diagnosis required.
Masking Welcome
TCAF encourages elective masking to protect immunocompromised attendees and keep the festival welcoming.
🚗 Getting There
The Mattamy Athletic Centre is at 50 Carlton Street, right in downtown Toronto. Transit is easily the simplest way in.
🚋 Streetcar
The 506 Carlton line stops just south of the venue at Church Street; all streetcars have ramps and wheelchair spots.
🚇 Subway
College Station is closest but has no elevators. For accessible service, use Wellesley or Dundas (about a 10-min walk).
💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
💵 Bring cash. It’s free to get in, but you’ll want to buy books and original art. Many creators take cards, but cash makes small purchases quick — and ATMs on-site can get busy.
🚋 Take transit. The 506 Carlton streetcar drops you at the door, and parking downtown is limited and expensive.
⏱️ Go early for popular creators. Big-name guests draw lines, and some books and prints sell out. Saturday opens at 9am — an early start beats the afternoon crowds.
👧 Bringing kids? Look up the kids’ programming schedule in advance — the drawing workshops and storytimes are a hit, and they fill up.
🧠 Need a break? The Retreat Neurodivergent Breakroom on the 3rd floor is open to anyone who needs to step away from the crowds and recharge.
