The Wiikwemkoong Arts and Music Festival is a celebration of Indigenous creativity and a platform built specifically to nurture emerging artists. Wikwemikong is located on Manitoulin Island, roughly 4–5 hours from Toronto or Ottawa. The community is accessible by car via Highway 6. Nimkii Bineshi Kaning (Thunderbird Park) is in the heart of Wikwemikong village and serves as the central gathering place for community events.

From Toronto (approx 4 hours): Take the Gardiner Expressway or Queen Elizabeth Way toward Hamilton, then head northwest through Grey and Huron counties to the Manitoulin Island exit. Follow Highway 6 across the island to Wikwemikong.

From Ottawa (approx 5 hours): Head west on Highway 17 through Algonquin country toward North Bay. At Nipissing Junction or south of North Bay, swing toward Manitoulin via Highway 533 or the scenic Otter Lake route, then head to Wikwemikong on Highway 6.

Parking: Parking is available at Nimkii Bineshi Kaning. Arrive early on festival day, especially if the weather is good, as lots can fill by mid-afternoon.

☀️ Bring sunscreen and layers. July weather on the island can be warm and sunny, but bring a light jacket or sweater for late afternoon or evening performances. A hat and water bottle are smart too.

💰 Bring cash or a card. While tickets can be purchased online, food vendors may accept both cash and digital payment — it’s safest to have both options available.

📸 Photography etiquette. Respect ceremony and performance spaces. If photography is restricted in certain areas or during specific moments, honour those boundaries. The smoke dance and other cultural performances carry deep meaning.
