Guelph Musicfest 2026 — Season 20
Twenty years on, Guelph Musicfest still feels like a beautifully kept secret — five Friday-evening chamber concerts at a 250-seat recital hall where the playing is world-class and you can usually shake the artist’s hand at intermission. This anniversary season is a standout: JUNO winners, a Klezmer-jazz crossover, and a Guelph native returning from Edinburgh.

Coming up May 29: The Festival Trio — violinist Sadie Fields (Edinburgh String Quartet), cellist Katie Schlaikjer (Penderecki Quartet), and pianist Ken Gee. Beethoven, Brahms, and a Conway Baker premiere.

Port Stanley Festival Theatre — 2026 Season
Six shows, two world premieres, and a harbour-view rooftop patio for intermission. Tucked into Lake Erie’s north shore, this 200-seat professional theatre pairs great Canadian plays with one of the best small-town beach days in the province. Season runs May through September — plenty of time to plan the perfect day trip.

Season opener May 27: Inner Elder — award-winning Cree artist Michelle Thrush in a one-woman show about growing up, family, and a superhero Kookum. Followed by a 70s disco concert, two Norm Foster comedies, a ghost story, and more.

Schomberg Agricultural Fair — 176th Edition
Ontario’s first fair of the season, and one of the best. This May long weekend, downtown Schomberg turns into one giant country block party — demolition derby, grand parade, FMX stunt show, 4-H livestock, midway, live music, and more. It’s been going since 1850. Some things just work.

This weekend — May 29–31: Gates open Friday at 5pm. Demolition Derby at 7pm. Saturday is the big day — parade at 11am, Luke Combs tribute at 8pm. Sunday is best for families — magic show, FMX stunt show, baby show, quieter vibe.
🗓️ How to Plan Your Southwestern Ontario Weekend
These three events are spread across the region but are easy to combine with a bit of planning.
🎹 Friday, May 29 — Guelph + Schomberg
🎹 Guelph Musicfest: Festival Trio at the Guelph Youth Music Centre at 7:30pm. World-class chamber music in a beautiful small hall. Book your ticket ahead.
🌾 Schomberg Fair: If you’re coming from north of Guelph, swing through Schomberg early evening — gates open at 5pm, Demolition Derby fires up at 7pm. These two don’t quite stack on the same night, so pick your priority.
🌾 Saturday, May 30 — Schomberg + Thornbury Bonus
🌾 Schomberg Fair: The big day. Grand Parade down Main Street at 11am (free from the sidewalk). Full fair all day. Luke Combs tribute (Beautiful Crazy) at 8pm. This is the one day you really want to be here.
🎹 Guelph Musicfest off-series: If you missed Friday in Guelph, a bonus recital happens at Grace United Church in Thornbury at 3:30pm — Sadie Fields and Ken Gee as the Festival Duo. A nice afternoon detour if you’re coming from Collingwood way.
🎭 Sunday, May 31 — Port Stanley Day Trip
🎭 Port Stanley Festival Theatre: The season opener — Michelle Thrush’s Inner Elder — runs May 27–30, so plan a dedicated Sunday matinee visit another weekend. But Port Stanley is always worth the drive: Blue Flag beach, great waterfront dining, and the theatre is a perfect afternoon-evening combination all summer long.
🌾 Schomberg Fair — Sunday: Quieter, cheaper admission ($10 adults). Best day for families — magic show at 10:30am, FMX stunt show at 11:30am and 2:30pm. Shorter lines at the midway.
🚗 Making a Road Trip of It
These three spots form a rough triangle across Southwestern Ontario. Here’s how the distances play out from a few common starting points:
From Toronto
Schomberg is the closest (~50 min via Hwy 400 N → Hwy 9 W). Guelph is ~75 min (Hwy 401 W → Hwy 6 N). Port Stanley is the furthest at ~2.5 hrs (401 W toward London, then south). All three are doable day trips — Port Stanley is best as an overnight or combined with a London stopover.
From London
Port Stanley is just 20 minutes south — practically in your backyard. Guelph is about 80 minutes east. Schomberg is ~2 hours. If you’re based in London this weekend, Schomberg and Guelph are better as a combined separate trip.
Guelph ↔ Schomberg loop
About 90 minutes apart via Hwy 400/9 or rural roads. Doable as a two-day combination — catch a Friday evening concert in Guelph, then spend Saturday at the Schomberg Fair before heading home.
