✨ Why Aurora Ribfest Is a Late-Summer Favourite

Aurora’s Ribfest lands right at the end of summer, and it’s one of those easygoing York Region weekends where the whole town seems to turn up. Presented by Desjardins and hosted by the Town of Aurora, it takes over Machell Park with the smell of slow-smoked ribs, a licensed Rotary beer garden, live entertainment and space for the kids to run around.

The draw is the food, obviously — the rib teams get fired up starting Friday — but it’s not all BBQ. You’ll also find roasted yams, roasted corn on the cob, beavertails and a spread of other festival eats for every appetite, so nobody in the group goes home hungry.

It’s free to get in, the site is fully fenced for safety, and there’s a dedicated Kid Zone on the weekend, which makes it an easy call for families. Bring your lawn chairs, come hungry, and plan to stay for the entertainment.

Machell Park sits just off Yonge Street near Aurora Heights Boulevard, in the heart of Aurora.

From Toronto via Hwy 404: Exit at Wellington Street West, turn right and head north on Yonge Street, then turn left onto Aurora Heights Boulevard.

From Hwy 400 / Hwy 401: Take Lloydtown exit east, right on Jane Street, left on 18th Sideroad, right on Yonge Street, then right onto Aurora Heights Boulevard.

💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go

💸 Cash is king. No ATM on-site and most stalls are cash-only — bring more than you think you’ll need so a great rib stop doesn’t get held up at the till.

🐶 Leave the dog at home. Pets aren’t allowed at the fenced site for health and safety reasons — only service animals are permitted.

👶 Time the Kid Zone. It runs Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 PM — build your afternoon around it if you’re bringing little ones.

🪑 Pack a chair or blanket. There’s live entertainment across the weekend — a folding chair makes the sets a lot more comfortable.
