π΅πͺ 2026 marks the 205th anniversary of Peru’s Independence β and the 25th anniversary of Casa Cultural Peruana, the community group behind the fest.
β¨ Why This One’s Worth Your Saturday
The GTA is home to more than 10,000 people of Peruvian descent, and for one weekend every July that community takes over one of the busiest public squares in the country to throw a party. The Canadian Multicultural Peruvian Fest lands right in the middle of Sankofa Square β the old Yonge-Dundas Square β which means you can wander in off the street with zero planning and find yourself surrounded by music, food, and dancing.
It’s built around Peru’s Independence Day, and 2026 is a milestone one: the 205th anniversary. The organizers, Casa Cultural Peruana, are marking their own 25th year at the same time, so expect the celebration to lean a little bigger and prouder than usual.
What makes it more than a food fair is the sheer range of programming. The Choliwood Celebrity Stage runs more than 20 free performances across the weekend β Peruvian folk, Latin American pop, salsa, merengue and more β and there’s a hands-on Let’s Dance program where you can actually learn the steps rather than just watch. Add an artisan market, a kids’ zone, and stalls of anticuchos, ceviche and lomo saltado, and it’s an easy, no-ticket day out that happens to double as a genuine cultural deep-dive.
π What’s On & When
The public festival runs across two days at Sankofa Square, 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM each day. The full performer lineup is announced closer to the date on the official site β here’s how the weekend is structured.
Saturday, July 25 β Multicultural Day Β· 2β8 PM
The multicultural-focused day, spotlighting Peru’s place within Canada’s wider cultural mosaic. Expect performances from multicultural dance and music groups alongside the Peruvian acts, the Let’s Dance program in full swing, and the Multicultural Community Zone open for newcomers and families.
Sunday, July 26 β Independence Commemoration Β· 2β8 PM
The official commemoration of Peru’s Independence, with the strongest Peruvian folk and celebrity programming on the Choliwood Stage and the patriotic heart of the weekend. A fitting close for the 205th anniversary.
π Ahead of the main weekend, Casa Cultural Peruana also hosts a 25th Anniversary Gala & Festival Launch earlier in July. Venue and details for that event are confirmed separately on the official site.

π Getting There & Parking
Sankofa Square sits at the corner of Yonge and Dundas β about as central as Toronto gets. It’s one of the easiest festival venues in the city to reach without a car.
By transit: The square sits directly on top of the TTC subway. Take Line 1 to Dundas station (now renamed TMU station) and you surface right at the edge of the square.
By car: There’s a 250-space Toronto Parking Authority garage directly beneath the square, with the entrance at Victoria and Dundas. Downtown parking fills up and isn’t cheap on a summer weekend, so transit is the easier call.

π‘ A Few Things Worth Knowing
π½ Come hungry. The food is a big part of the point β anticuchos, ceviche, lomo saltado and more. Bring cash and a card; vendor lines can move slowly at peak.
π Take the subway. Parking downtown is pricey and limited on weekends, and the square is literally on top of a subway stop. It’s the stress-free way in.
βοΈ Bring sun cover and water. The square is open granite with little natural shade β a hat and sunscreen go a long way on a July afternoon. There are public drinking fountains on-site.
π Don’t just watch β join in. The Let’s Dance program is designed for beginners, so this is your chance to actually learn a few steps instead of standing at the back.
