Kites in Clifford 2026
Look up. Stay awhile. On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the skies above this small Wellington County village fill with giant, breathtaking kites — the kind that take three people to launch and stop traffic when they take off. It’s a free, one-day community festival that quietly punches above its weight.
Kite flyers come in from across the region. A 40+ vendor market lines the park. Food trucks, kids’ activities, a Bring Your Own Kite zone, and — if the wind cooperates — a special night kite show at dusk. It’s the kind of day where you bring a lawn chair and end up staying twice as long as you planned.

✨ Why This Festival Is Worth the Drive
Clifford is a village of just over 700 people in the Town of Minto, tucked between Mount Forest and Harriston. For one Saturday in May, its population briefly multiplies as families, photographers, and kite enthusiasts roll into Rotary Park to watch the sky.
The professional kites aren’t just big — they’re cinematic. We’re talking inflatable creatures, geometric soft kites, and stunt displays designed to be flown in formation. They drift slowly enough that kids can chase shadows across the grass.
What makes Kites in Clifford genuinely worth a day trip is the mix. The market keeps you browsing between sky-watching. The food trucks turn lunch into part of the experience. And the optional evening flight — lit kites against a Wellington County sunset — is the kind of thing that ends up on your phone’s wallpaper for the rest of the summer.

⚠️ If you’re coming for the daytime event, plan to arrive before noon. On-site parking is limited and tends to fill up fast.
🧭 Bringing Your Own Kite
There’s a designated Bring Your Own Kite (BYOK) area where visitors can launch their own kites alongside watching the pros. A few things to know:
• The BYOK area is unsupervised — bring your own adult
• Children must be accompanied at all times
• Participants fly at their own risk
• Stay well clear of the professional flying area — their lines and kites are much larger than they look
• A simple delta or diamond kite works great for kids; box and stunt kites do better with breeze

🍁 Make a Day of It
If the evening kite show happens, you’ll have a few hours to fill between 3:00 PM and dusk. Even if it doesn’t, Clifford and the wider Minto area are worth poking around. Some ideas:
• Shop and explore downtown Clifford’s small businesses
• Grab dinner at Dell’s Diner, Clifford Takeout, or Clifford Snack Shack
• Take the self-guided Downtown Historical Walking Tour through the Driftscape app
• Walk local trails and enjoy the spring scenery
• Drive out to neighbouring Minto communities (Harriston, Palmerston, Drew) for more small-town exploring

💡 A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Go
🪓 Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket. Watching kites is a sit-back-and-look-up activity. The grass is fine but a chair makes a long afternoon much better.
🌤️ Sunscreen, hats, water. There’s very little shade at Rotary Park. A late-May day in the sun adds up quickly.
👑 Check the Facebook page the morning of. Wind makes or breaks this event. Organizers post conditions and any schedule changes there first.
📱 Bring a phone — or a real camera. The kites photograph beautifully, especially against blue sky. Tag @cliffordconnects if you share — they reshare community photos.
🛒 Bring cash. Some vendors in the market are card-friendly, but small-town artisan markets always go smoother with cash on hand.
🐶 If you’re bringing the dog: keep it leashed, bring water, and read the room — giant flapping kites overhead unsettle some dogs.
